In 2008, I appeared to be the perfect picture of health and had never looked better. I was super lean and strong, competing in women’s physique and doing some fitness modeling. I stand for a high level of excellence so I was on a mission to look and feel my best. I was exercising twice a day, following my diet plan perfectly and drinking 1.5 gallons of water every day.
Something was seriously wrong though. I was suffering inside and ignoring the early signs of my body breaking down. I thought it was just something I had to push through with mental toughness. I did my workouts every day, no matter how exhausted I felt. I measured out every morsel of food. I took my fat burners to help me lean out. As far as I knew, this was the path to extraordinary health.
If this was ultimate health, why was I feeling so awful?
Why did I feel like my body was deteriorating from the inside out?
I was dealing with chronic fatigue and struggled to make it through my days. This fatigue got to the point where it was severely impacting my work and I was terrified even to drive. My skin was constantly inflamed and I had embarrassing acne on my face, chest and back. I was a slave to my coverup stick. My anxiety and stress levels kept increasing until I started having anxiety attacks and some days I just really didn’t know how I would keep going.
I looked so amazing in photos, though, so shouldn’t I be healthy and happy?
I went to my doctor to get blood tests and found out my hormones were out of balance so he put me on a treatment plan. I really didn’t understand what was going on and I was getting scared that it was something more serious. Every time I got behind the wheel, I would pray for safety because I literally couldn’t keep my eyes open no matter how hard I tried. I would doze off over and over and always thank my angels for miraculously keeping me safe.

After letting this suffering continue for several months, it was getting worse until one day I had my big wakeup call. I was driving home from work and dozing off as usual, but this time I wrecked my car by crashing into the wall on the freeway. My car was totaled but I was unharmed.
I knew something had to change. Over the next few months, I became obsessed with reading and learning about food and environmental toxins impact the body. I had this awakening to a bigger purpose that put me on the journey to understand what true health is. My body was breaking down and I felt really confused but I believed that I had the power to change that. I knew that nature held the answers. I was studying everything I could get my hands on and learning how to optimize my health through nutrition and lifestyle habits.
I am so grateful for the teachers on my path who have helped me wake up to myself and the mind-body connection. It took me many years of studying and experimenting with my body to find out what really optimizes my health. The incredible things I’ve learned on this journey have transformed my health and my life! Once I found out how amazing my body can feel, I will never go back to destroying my body. I’ve become very in tune with what affects my energy, my mood and my skin.
